The answer is simple.
Let's call them the 3 W's.
Successful people make the effort to understand:
1. What really makes people tick.
2. What motivates them.
3. Why they makes the choices they make.
If you're in network marketing, YOU should know this.
MLM is a people business, not a sales business.
If you want to be successful, get to know a person and find out what they want, it may turn out that they don't want to be in network marketing. Whatever there reason maybe, getting to know them first, it will be revealed to you in time. You may not want them in your business if you find out what they're reason is, and maybe you can help them work through it.
The kind of person you would want to join you in your business is someone you could go on a 30 day cruise with. You wouldn't want to be on a cruise with someone who just joined your business and you didn't make the effort in getting to know them first and then you find out later on something about that person you don't like.
Build your business for success by getting to know someone first, and having a good relationship. Then in time the person you have been in a relationship with may just want to see what you do for a living and by getting to know them, you can make your decision on whether or not to present it to them based upon your relationship with them. It may turn out that your decision is not to be in business with them and just be friends. On the other hand, it could be a perfect union for both of you.
It really is very important to understand that you must make the effort to find out first.
Wouldn't life be grand if the people in the world was perfect, but it's not and you really don't want just anybody in your business.
So in finishing this up, to say that everybody is different is an understatement. We all have our strengths and we all have our weaknesses. Some people are great when talking with people, then there's the person that's not so great it.

You are so right! People join a network marketing company for many reasons. If you don't establish a relationship with your prospect, then you never know their 'Why' and if you don't ask them... well, then you'll never know it at all. Build a relationship with your prospect first, then build a business. That's the only way.
Yes, you are asking people to join your business and work with you. If you're working with someone then it makes sense that you would want to have a relationship with them and know and trust them.
